2008 U.S. Transplant Games

July 11 – 16, 2008

Every other year, since 1990, the National Kidney Foundation has brought together transplant recipients and their families, living donors and donor family members to celebrate the success of transplantation and to honor the gift from donors.  The U.S. Transplant Games feature sports events for transplant recipients from around the country and recognition ceremonies honoring both living and deceased donors.

Who Can Attend the Games?
There’s something for everyone…..transplant recipients, donor family members, living donors and friends and family members.  Recipients don’t need to be accomplished athletes to participate; the U.S. Transplant Games are much more than a competition.  The Games serve as testimony to the gift of life, both for those who have given and for those who have received.

• Anyone who has a commitment to the importance of organ and tissue donation.
• Transplant recipients who have received a life-saving organ (heart, lung, liver, kidney, pancreas or bone marrow) can participate in one or more sports with other recipients.
• Living donors and donor family members of deceased donors are recognized during national ceremonies by the National Kidney Foundation for the ‘gift of life’ each has given. 
• Family members, friends and healthcare professionals fill the stands and sidelines with cheers of encouragement and applause of appreciation.

Sports
Recipients who have received a life-saving solid organ transplant (including heterologous bone marrow) which has been functioning for al least six months are eligible to compete in the following events.
