Patient Services

The National Kidney Foundation of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, and Vermont provides numerous programs and services to more than 10,000 end-stage renal disease patients in our four-state area, people at risk for kidney disease and the thousands of renal professionals who help them.

  • Emergency Medication and Transportation Fund: For patients with no other alternatives, the National Kidney Foundation of Massachusetts, Rhode Island New Hampshire and Vermont may be able to provide emergency funds to cover medication or transportation.
  • Medical ID Jewelry available through NKF MA-RI-NH-VT immediately alerts medical providers to your condition in a crisis, when the slightest delay could spell tragedy.
  • Educational programs funded by NKF MA-RI-NH-VT provide information and support to newly diagnosed patients, educate medical providers on the most up-to-date treatment approaches and help those at greatest risk for kidney disease take steps to avert it.
  • Educational publications on a wide variety of topics produced by the National Kidney Foundation are available through local affiliates.
  • Gift of Fitness. Through a partnership with the YMCA, we offer three month complimentary introductory memberships at a patient's local YM/YWCA. Exercise can greatly improve outlook and outcomes for kidney patients and transplant recipients. Referrals come from social workers, nurses and physicians at area dialysis and transplant centers. In some cases, patients can also arrange for discounts on continuing memberships.
  • Nutritional Supplement Support Program. Dialysis patients often require nutritional supplements to get enough protein and calories. Other kidney disease patients may need them on a short-term or long-term basis, yet no insurance carriers currently cover nutritional supplements. We are able to provide some financial assistance to patients who cannot cover the cost of such supplements on their own.

For more information on any of these programs, please contact Andrea Savisky at 800-542-4001 or asavisky@kidneyhealth.org

The Patient and Family Council (PFC) was founded in 1995 by the National Kidney Foundation, for people with kidney disease and their families. It provides an avenue for patients to express their concerns and identify problems so that the Foundation can help address those concerns and problems in an effective way. The Patient and Family Council is the fastest growing and largest patient organization dedicated to issues affecting individuals with kidney disease and their families.

The N.H. Medication Bridge Program is a private-public partnership under the leadership of the Foundation for Healthy Communities to help eligible uninsured and under-insured patients of all ages to receive needed medications from pharmaceutical companies' Patient Assistance Programs.
